I ran across this Ted-Ed video, How Playing an Instrument Benefits Your Brain, some time ago, but I go back time and again to watch it.
Imagine that there is detailed and specific scientific informaton that allows scientists to state that "listening to music is like fireworks going off all over the brain", and "making music is like a jubilee on the brain". Seriously beautiful and fascinating visuals!
Then there is the notion that playing music is the brain's equivalent of a "full-body workout," that increases the volume and activity in the brain, allowing musicians to solve problems more effectively and creatively in both academic and social settings.
Certainly makes the point ever more clear that listening and playing music is as essential for a healthy childhood experience as a bicycle, ball and bat!
