I had the great fortune of studying at the Hofstra University, Long Island, NY for my undergraduate (bassoon) and master (education) degrees. While there I studied with Lisa Alexander, an amazing teacher, soloist, chamber musician, and the founder and leader of the Glickman Ensemble. The Glickman Ensemble is bassoon ensemble dedicated to "bringing the beautiful sonorous sounds of the bassoon to the public through our love of chamber music," by specifically playing music transcribed and arranged by renown Loren Glickman.
Beginning in 2012 Lisa, and Hofstra University, launched a yearly program entitled BASSOONATION DAY; a day-long event for local bassoonists interested in learning more about the bassoon, performing with a bassoon band, attending masterclasses and so much more. Each year the event offers a wide variety of opportunities, such as performing with a bassoon band, getting instrument repairs, meeting bassoon vendors, and attending masterclasses with professional musicians.
Previous guests artist have included:
* The Glickman Ensemble - professional bassoon chamber ensemble
* Leonard Hindell - Professor and previous member of N.Y. Philharmonic & Metropolitan Opera
* William Short - Principal Bassoon of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra
AND THIS YEAR
* Kim Laskowski - Professor and Associate Principal Bassoon of the NY Philharmonic.

This year marks the FIFTH Anniversary of BASSOONATION DAY! So, if you know of young aspiring bassoonists interested in a day-long event, please give them a heads up!
